After studying for my degree in English Language and Literature at Manchester University, I gained my PGCE in Secondary English and have since taught in a number of top London secondary schools, in the state and independent sector. These include Fortismere School and NHEHS (GDST). At NHEHS I was part of the interviewing panel and also marked 11+ entrance exams.
I have taught secondary English to students aged between 11-18, covering Key Stage 3, GCSE and A Level. I continue to offer private tuition to this age range to students of all abilities and also offer 11 + English tuition.
I remain passionate about making Language and Literature accessible to learners of all ages and abilities, igniting an interest in writers' use of language which goes beyond the limitations of the curriculum. I also have many years' experience preparing students for public examinations and pride myself on helping each and every student to achieve the best grade they are capable of.
Whilst at NHEHS working as an English teacher, I was lucky enough to be offered the role of Special Needs Coordinator, which I enjoyed very much. I now work as a part-time advisory SENCO at St Margaret's School in Hampstead and enjoy providing support and guidance to children and their families.
During my career in the classroom, I also studied for and gained two further post-graduate qualifications. The first was an MA In Psychoanalytic Observational Studies at The University of East London and the Tavistock Centre. This allowed me to pursue a special interest of mine - understanding some of the emotional factors in teaching and learning. I also gained a Post-Graduate Diploma in Special and Inclusive Education (including the assessment of SpLD - Dyslexia) from the IOE.
Underpinning all of my work is a commitment to the individual child and to ensuring that their work with me is as enjoyable, challenging and supportive as possible. I am realistic yet ambitious in my expectations for my students and together we often achieve more than either of us thought would be possible!
